Instead of saying “synced to iCloud” it says downloading 22 originals.
I've been doing this for over a year without any problems after updating to MacOS Sonoma I began encountering this issue. I have about 80,000 items in my photos database, I keep them all in the cloud however I like keeping them on my SSD as well for redundancy. Hopefully Apple find & release a fix for this.extremely frustrating! However, automatic downloads of originals is still stuck. There is a way to to force download of originals by selecting images, right-clicking, and selecting 'play slideshow' - this forces Photos to download high-res images before playing the slideshow. Downloading originals still works fine on an older MacBook Pro & my iPhone. I currently have a support call logged with Apple for investigation - and hearing others have a similar issue makes me think it's a broader system/software issue and not just me. removing the 'syndication.photolibray' as you mentioned killing/relaunching photos processes (e.g. leaving my computer on overnight, both with Photos open & closed (some things are background processes) enabling & disabling 'Optimise storage' with disabled it SHOULD download all hi-res images starting a new library (several times!) clearing internal SSD space and trying that - same result using external SSDs with LOTS of storage, formatted correctly (APFS, non-case-sensitive) I have tried the following without success: Latest software versions installed (MacOS 14.1.2 Sonoma and Photos 9). I have a new M3 MacBook Pro, with 18,500 images (including 1600 videos) - all up around 160Gb on iCloud. A restart didn't help.I have the same issue, and after a week struggling & following other advice Downloading Originals to my local Photos library is still stuck. If I look at the size of the library in finder the size is increasing ever so slowly, like a few mb every few minutes. If I go through and try and open individual images it will sometimes force it to download, sometimes it will just get stuck and do nothing. I've read elsewhere that the process can be slow but at this rate it will take years to download them all. My download speeds are super fast, I don't think that would be the problem. After chugging away non-stop for about 24 hours now it has downloaded a grand total of. When it appeared to be complete, it changed to say 'Downloading 160,610 Originals'. I now have an iMac with oodles of space so I thought I'll download all the high res again.Įverything seemed to go well at first, the library 'updated', photos came flooding in for a good day or so. Took a few days but seemed to go off without a hitch. I can't believe the download should take this long, especially as the progress bar in Photos isn't moving at all.Īny suggestions, as to how to resolve this would be much appreciated.ĭownloading originals so slooooooooooooow Many moons ago I was running out of space on my laptop so I turned on optimise storage and my entire 160k photo library was uploaded to the cloud. I have a Time Machine back up that doesn't seem to want to work either, I can see all my files but 'Restore' is greyed out so can't even restore my Photo library that way. On the iMac, same photo stuck on a quarter turn of the clock. I have iCloud Photo Library switched on on my iPad Pro and my iPhone 7+, both with "Optimise" storage selected. If I click on a photo on either device it pops up full resolution almost immediately, the little clock flies around. If you turn off iCloud Photo Library, photos and videos that have not been fully downloaded will be removed from the Mac etc etc. If I try to turn off iCloud Photo Library in Photos Preferences, I get the message 'Your iCloud Photo Library is currently updating. I have "Download Originals to this Mac" selected in Photos Preferences iCloud. This seems quite random, some photos from 2014 showing up as full res, others in the same album not fully downloaded. I can see all of my photos thumbnails, some are full resolution, others have the little clock bottom right when I click it open, but the little clock only shows a quarter full and then stops. I have left the iMac running for days now and still no progress. There is plenty of storage on my iCloud storage plan. There is plenty of space on my hard drive 913GB for 30GB worth of photos. The Mac is connected to my router via ethernet cable and machine has been left awake. Photos has been stuck on "Downloading 23,544 Originals" for days, the number doesn't not change. I want to keep all my original photos on my iMac. Now trying to download approx 26,000 photos from my iCloud Photo library. I recently had to do a clean install of High Sierra, so essentially a new iMac.
